Last night, Leader Pelosi made it clear that Democrats are more concerned with hiking taxes than getting our fiscal house in order, which is why the Biden-led debt limit talks have stalled. With millions of Americans out of work, and the national debt continuing to soar, our focus needs to be on reducing spending and encouraging growth, not raising taxes on working families and small businesses.
Pelosi: We Don’t Need To Focus On Spending Cuts, We Need To Focus On Raising Taxes. “Well, I think he's right when he says it's important that the tax issue be resolved. Because while the negotiations had been proceeding in good faith and constructively by all accounts under the leadership of Vice President Biden, the discussion had largely been about cuts, but not about revenues. And if we're going have a serious package about deficit reduction, we have to be talking revenues.” (MSNBC’s The Last Word, 6/23/11)
- Pelosi: I Don’t Know About Spending Cuts, But Democrats Will Fight To Raise Taxes. “... I don't even know where the trillion dollars in cuts he's talking about is coming from. But the fact is, is that you cannot cut yourself to balance. You have to have revenue on the table. And that is the fight we'll make.” (MSNBC’s The Last Word, 6/23/11)
