Today, Press Secretary Jay Carney credited the tax deal struck last December, the same one President Obama has been attempting to reverse, with helping to prevent the unemployment rate from climbing even higher than its current rate of 9.1%.
From Today’s White House Press Briefing:
Question: Is it the sense of the White House that the existing tax cuts have helped the economy --
Press Secretary Jay Carney: Absolutely.
Question: and that the unemployment rate -- which is 9.1 right now -- might otherwise be higher without them?
Carney: Yes. Yes, I think that that is absolutely the case.
