Schumer Spearheads Dem Inaction On Budget

Posted by Brian Patrick on

FYI –

After intentionally trying to blow-up the debt limit negotiations last week, today we learned that Senator Schumer has been the “driving force,” behind the Senate Democrats failure to pass a budget. It’s been 812 days since Democrats passed a budget, it’s time for Senator Schumer to stop stalling any action on getting our fiscal house in order.

  • Senator Schumer Was The Driving Force Behind Democrats Failure To Put Forward Their Budget. He’s also spearheaded the party’s message on corporate jet tax breaks in concert with the White House, and he even persuaded rank-and-file Senators earlier this month to abandon their desire for a Democratic budget ... (Roll Call, 7/20/11)
  • Senate Dem Aide: Schumer “Led The Fight In The Senate Against Releasing Our Budget.” (Roll Call, 7/20/11)
  • Senator Schumer Encouraged Democrats To “Postpone” Unveiling A Budget. And it likely was with the offensive on House Republicans in mind that Schumer quietly encouraged colleagues to postpone unveiling a Senate budget plan crafted by Budget Chairman Kent Conrad. (Roll Call, 7/20/11)

Flashback:

  • March 2011: Senator Schumer Actively Moved To Block Senate Democrats Working On A Bipartisan Debt-Reduction Plan. Mr. Schumer has also tried to unify his party on the fiscal front. For example, he has maneuvered behind the scenes to impede a group of Senate Democrats who are working on a bipartisan debt-reduction plan that would most likely require Republicans to accept the elimination of certain tax breaks in return for Democratic support for cuts in Social Security benefits.
