You Don't Raise Taxes In a Recession

Posted by Brian Patrick on

FYI –

This afternoon, the Administration once again insisted that the newly formed deficit commission raise taxes. In August of 2009, President Obama said “you don’t raise taxes in a recession.”

Today, millions of Americans remain out of work and unemployment lingers at 9.1%. How many jobs will raising taxes create?

  • Press Secretary Jay Carney: We need to take action collectively to come together – Democrats and Republicans – to further reduce our deficits and get our long-term debt under control. We strongly believe that the way to do that is to take a balanced approach. (WH Press Briefing, 8/10/11)
