This is a completely inaccurate report and Leader Cantor did not receive a cash award. In 2009, the American Legislative Exchange Council honored Leader Cantor with the Thomas Jefferson Freedom award. Previous recipients of the award include President Ronald Reagan, then Nebraska Governor Ben Nelson, Senator Paul Coverdale, Senator Zel Miller, Governor Haley Barbour, and the men and women of the United States Armed Services. During the award presentation, which can be viewed here, Leader Cantor was presented with a bust of Thomas Jefferson with the following inscription: "in recognition of his extraordinary accomplishments in advancing the Jeffersonian principles on individual liberty, limited government, federalism and free enterprise." He was permitted to receive this bust under the House gift rules because it was a non-monetary award for public service.
