Today, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor released the following statement on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce markup of H.R. 803, the SKILLS Act, which the House will consider next week as part of our #MakingLifeWork Agenda:
"Millions of Americans are struggling to find work or change careers, but don't have the resources to do so. Many businesses are looking to hire, but are having trouble finding individuals with the skills they need for the jobs available. That's why the House is moving forward with solutions to strengthen and improve our federal workforce development programs and help more middle class workers."
"The SKILLS Act streamlines 35 overlapping job training programs, including many identified by the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office, and eliminates unnecessary red tape so state and local resources go directly to helping job seekers. These are goals the President has said he supports. I want to thank Chairman John Kline and Congresswoman Virginia Foxx for advancing the SKILLS Act today, and I hope we can all come together next week to help more people get the skills they need to get back to work.”
