Today, the House approved the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline by passing the Northern Route Approval Act (H.R. 3) in a bipartisan 241-175 vote.
Upon passage, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor released the following statement:
“Working families need access to jobs and affordable energy, but President Obama continues to block construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. Building the pipeline would create tens of thousands of new jobs, bring more energy to the marketplace from our ally Canada, and help lead to lower energy prices for families.
“Despite broad bipartisan support and extensive environmental reviews, President Obama and his Administration have blocked this project, and the economic growth that comes with it, for more than four years. The Northern Route Approval Act will ensure that construction of the pipeline can finally proceed. I commend Congressman Lee Terry for championing this important legislation. It’s time to build the Keystone XL pipeline, and I urge President Obama to finally approve it. There is no excuse for further delay.”
