House Advances Offshore Energy Bills

Posted by Nick Marcelli on

This week, President Obama unveiled his plan to wage a "war on coal," putting thousands of American jobs at risk and skyrocketing energy prices for American families. While the President is focused on blocking American-made energy, House Republicans are working to lower energy costs for families.

The House is considering two bills, H.R. 1613 and H.R. 2231, to create jobs and open new offshore areas for responsible energy development.

Upon passage of H.R. 1613, Majority Leader Eric Cantor released the following statement :

“Energy costs are too high for working families struggling in this stagnant economy, yet this week, President Obama announced he will unilaterally introduce new rules and regulations to impose even higher costs on us all. House Republicans reject that path, and instead are focused on lowering costs for families.

“This week, the House is advancing two offshore energy bills to open new areas off the coast of Virginia and along the Gulf of Mexico to oil and natural gas development. President Obama should not block our nation’s offshore energy resources from being responsibly developed. Enacting these bipartisan bills will help put Americans to work, bring down energy prices and grow our economy. I want to thank Chairman Doc Hastings, Congressman Jeff Duncan and the Natural Resources Committee for their hard work on these pro-energy proposals.

“It’s time to get serious about energy, lower costs, create jobs and unleash America’s full potential.”
