House Majority Leader Eric Cantor released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 5, The Student Success Act:
“Today is a huge victory for our kids, ensuring they have access to a good education. For too long, our education system has failed too many, especially those trapped in poverty and forced to attend failing schools. The Student Success Act will remove federal mandates on our local schools, provide parents and students with more choice, and make it easier for states to expand charter and magnet school opportunities for students. By empowering parents and supporting dedicated teachers, we can help ensure that all children have access to a learning environment that best suits their needs.
"I thank Chairman John Kline, Subcommittee Chairman Todd Rokita and the entire Education and Workforce Committee for their work on this important legislation. I’m also pleased the House adopted my amendment to allow states to have federal funds follow students to the public school of their choice, including charter schools. I remain committed to ensuring education is a priority, and look forward to continuing our work in the House to give parents and students more education opportunities.”
