House Majority Leader Eric Cantor today issued the following statement in honor of the 13th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the USS Cole, a destroyer homeported at Naval Station Norfolk:
“Thirteen years ago today, al Qaeda terrorists attacked the USS Cole and took the lives of seventeen American sailors in Yemen. One of those sailors was our own Petty Officer 2nd Class Kenneth Eugene Clodfelter from Hanover County in Virginia’s 7th District. As we remember Petty Officer Clodfelter, his family, and all those who lost their lives that day, we honor their sacrifice for our country in the name of freedom.
Their legacy lives on in our brave men and women who continue to courageously fight terrorism both at home and abroad. We honor those lives lost thirteen years ago today, and we thank our service men and women who remain on the front lines of the war against terrorism.”
