House Majority Leader Eric Cantor today released the following statement commending passage of the United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act of 2014, sponsored by Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen:
"Now more than ever we need an America that leads and an America that stands unwavering in its commitment to Israel, and I am pleased that today the House has passed the United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act to reaffirm that commitment. This legislation aims to deepen the broad-based cooperation between our two countries, including in the fields of defense technology, border security, cyber security, and energy.
"This legislation builds upon the U.S.-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act, adopted by the House and signed into law in 2012, which institutionalized the deep military and security ties between the United States and the State of Israel and reiterated America’s unshakeable commitment to Israel’s security and international stability.
"I commend sponsors Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Rep. Ted Deutch for introducing this legislation and thank Chairman Ed Royce and the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Chairman Lamar Smith and the Science Committee, Chairman Bob Goodlatte and the Judiciary Committee, and Chairman Fred Upton and the Energy and Commerce Committee for their hard work on this important bill."
