House Majority Leader Eric Cantor gave the following remarks at today's weekly Republican Leadership press conference:
"As much of the country is seeing snow pile up today, we are reminded of the home heating bills piling up on the kitchen tables during this cold winter. Two weeks ago, we in the House passed several bipartisan bills aimed at lowering costs for working middle class families and increasing jobs. The Senate should act on those bills as soon as possible.
"America is not working when President Obama is seeking to close coal power plants, causing home heating costs to rise and jobs to be lost. An America that works takes advantage of affordable energy, reduces home heating costs, and creates jobs. This week we're going to pass Congressman Bill Johnson's bill that creates jobs and helps those who need relief from explosive energy bills.
"The House is going to continue to seek ways to assist Ukraine and hold Russia accountable for its unlawful aggression towards a sovereign nation. Almost three weeks ago, the House passed an overwhelmingly bipartisan bill to provide President Obama the authority to issue loan guarantees to Ukraine. I'm proud that the House put politics aside and came together in a bipartisan way to do what was right for our friends in Ukraine. It's time the Senate follow suit.
"This week, I also expect the House again to follow the lead of Chairman Ed Royce on the Foreign Affairs Committee and pass a bipartisan bill reiterating not only our support for Ukraine, but our support for allies in Eastern Europe and NATO, as well as insisting on holding Mr. Putin and the Oligarchs accountable for their unlawful acts."
