WASHINGTON D.C. – House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) today issued the following statement regarding the HR 3, the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act”:
“In recent years, we’ve seen several Democrat attempts to force American taxpayers to fund abortion – first through ObamaCare, and then by rolling back the ban on abortion funding in the District of Columbia.
“The Obama Administration repealed restrictions on taxpayer funding of abortion groups abroad, and even moved to rescind conscience protections for health care professionals who are morally opposed to abortion. Americans overwhelmingly oppose using taxpayer dollars to fund elective abortions and support the rights of conscientious objectors.
“As part of fulfilling our Pledge to America, we support instituting a permanent, government-wide prohibition on taxpayer-funding of abortion and ensuring conscience protections for health care providers.”
