WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) today issued the following statement after the Senate voted to approve House Republican's second short-term Continuing Resolution:
"I was glad to see the overwhelming majority of my colleagues in the Senate join with us to approve our second short-term spending measure that keeps the government running while cutting spending. When signed into law, this measure will mean that we've cut $10 billion in just 5 weeks which is a step in the right direction to begin to make Washington live within its means.
"Now that we've put more time on the clock, I again implore the President and Senate Democrats to give us an offer that can get majority support in the Senate to fund the government for the remainder of the fiscal year that includes serious spending cuts. We cannot continue to fund the government with a series of bandaids. We need the Democrats and the White House to join us on a long-term measure to fund the government and cut spending so that our economy has the confidence to grow and people can get back to work."
