WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) today issued the following statement in response to the White House’s proposal to cut $6.5 billion in spending for the rest of the fiscal year:
“A month into the debate, I’m glad that the White House finally outlined a plan, but unfortunately it falls far short and is not a serious attempt to cut spending and get our fiscal house in order. Less government spending equals more private sector jobs, and House Republicans applied that principle to our long-term funding measure, H.R. 1. At a time when the debt is more than $14 trillion, we must cut spending and do more with less so that people can get back to work. The visions of each party cannot be more clear, but I am hopeful that as negotiations continue, Democrats will finally listen to people who want real solutions to the economic challenges facing our country.”
