“House Republicans believe if you cut government spending we can create private sector jobs, that’s why we’re doing what we’re doing. My question is, where is the President? We in the House have continued to lead on this issue, delivering on spending cuts so that more private sector jobs can be created. We passed H.R. 1, putting our marker down to say we believe we ought to be cutting spending, $100 billion off of the 2011 levels request. We then said we don’t want to see a shutdown, but we are serious about cutting spending, so we passed an interim spending measure last week. We’ve also continued to lead on entitlements, which we’ve said is the real issue.
“Structurally we have to cut spending so we can have private sector jobs for the people of this country, and my question to you is where is the President? We continue to hear from him and the White House that, ‘we are going to meet you halfway.’ Well, where is the President? So we will continue to lead. We heard yesterday that Senator Reid likes the 1099 bill, in fact, he says it was preferable to the version in the Senate. We look forward to its passage quickly because we believe that it’s a jobs bill. We believe in lifting the burden on small businesses so we can see more jobs created. Again, where’s the President? The country expects leadership here, and we want to cut spending so we can create private sector jobs.”
