WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) today issued the following statement regarding the passage of the Energy Tax Prevention Act, H.R. 910, to stop the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from implementing a national energy tax:
"Today, the House passed the Energy Tax Prevention Act to permanently prevent the EPA from implementing regulations that would cost our economy billions of dollars, destroy jobs, and force American families and businessmen and women to bear ever-increasing gas and utility costs. Left unchecked, the Obama Administration's EPA would unilaterally regulate greenhouse gas emissions through the Clean Air Act, going against the will of the American people, past precedent and Congress, where there is bipartisan consensus that a national energy tax would destroy jobs and drag down the economy. The Energy Tax Prevention Act is part of House Republicans' larger economic growth agenda to give Americans a renewed sense of economic certainty by ending out-of-control government regulations and allowing the private sector to drive solutions for our nation's energy needs and create jobs."
