WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) issued the following statement regarding the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) decision to file a lawsuit against the Boeing Company for opening a new factory in Charleston, South Carolina, alleging unfair labor practices. Today, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform is holding a hearing in Charleston to examine how the actions of the NLRB threaten thousands of jobs.
"The Obama Administration has imposed needless regulations and crippling mandates on the private sector, stalling the economy and destroying jobs. The latest move by the National Labor Relations Board to delay Boeing from building a new plant in South Carolina has the potential to not only eliminate hundreds of existing jobs, but prevent thousands of new jobs from being created. At a time when millions of Americans are out of work and unemployment is at 9.1%, the Obama Administration could not be more out of touch. Washington should be promoting policies that will grow the economy and empower the private sector to create jobs, not imposing restrictions that make it harder for people to find work.
"Regrettably, the NLRB has become a polarizing ideological institution prone to picking winners and losers on behalf of big-labor with complete disregard for states’ Right to Work laws and at the expense of American jobs. Right to Work states, like my home state of Virginia, should not be penalized by union bosses for offering an environment where businesses can compete fairly, attract capital for investment, innovate and compete. Instead of tying the hands of job creators with needless red tape, we should be encouraging growth so that businesses can expand and begin hiring again."
