WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) today issued the following statement on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s announcement that the Senate will consider the House-passed STOCK Act:
“I’m pleased the Senate will be taking up the House-passed bipartisan STOCK Act for a vote this Thursday. Insider trading by members of Congress is unacceptable, and the STOCK Act will ensure the public knows that the same rules apply to elected officials as everyone else. The House worked to strengthen the STOCK Act and expanded provisions to fully cover the Executive Branch.
“Members on both sides of the aisle and both sides of the Capitol have worked hard on this issue and deserve tremendous credit for their efforts. Here in the House, Representatives Tim Walz and Louise Slaughter deserve our thanks for their dedication to increase transparency and accountability as we take a step to restore the public’s trust in the federal government. I look forward to a strong vote in the Senate on Thursday and getting this bipartisan bill to the President’s desk for his signature.”
