WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) released the following statement in support of H.R., 1406, The Working Families Flexibility Act. Sponsored by Representative Martha Roby (R-AL) this bill gives working parents more flexibility in how they take advantage of their earned overtime hours at work:
“Today, Representative Martha Roby took an important step to help working parents who are juggling responsibilities at home and on the job. Her bill, the Working Families Flexibility Act, will give working moms and dads more options to choose from when being compensated for overtime work. Through a voluntary arrangement with their employers, working parents will have more quality time to spend with their families.
“All too often, working parents have to weigh whether they can afford to miss work, even for half a day, to take their child to the doctor or attend a parent-teacher conference. While state and local government workers have long been able to choose paid time off as compensation for working overtime hours, the federal government actually prevents hourly private sector employees from enjoying the same benefit. It’s time to fix this.
“In the coming weeks, the House will consider the Working Families Flexibility Act to create a more flexible workplace for parents and protect all workers. This is the kind of common sense legislation that we should all be able to support and will make life work for more families.”
