Leader Cantor: House Advances Offshore Energy Bills

Posted on

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) released the following statement after House passage of H.R. 1613, The Outer Continental Shelf Transboundary Hydrocarbon Agreements Authorization Act:

“Energy costs are too high for working families struggling in this stagnant economy, yet this week, President Obama announced he will unilaterally introduce new rules and regulations to impose even higher costs on us all. House Republicans reject that path, and instead are focused on lowering costs for families.

“This week, the House is advancing two offshore energy bills to open new areas off the coast of Virginia and along the Gulf of Mexico to oil and natural gas development. President Obama should not block our nation’s offshore energy resources from being responsibly developed. Enacting these bipartisan bills will help put Americans to work, bring down energy prices, and grow our economy. I want to thank Chairman Doc Hastings, Congressman Jeff Duncan, Congressman Matt Salmon and the Natural Resources Committee for their hard work on these pro-energy proposals.

“It’s time to get serious about energy, lower costs, create jobs, and unleash America’s full potential.”
