WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) released the following statement commemorating the 70th anniversary of the attack on the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941:
“Today, we come together to remember the 70th anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor. We honor the brave men and women who gave their lives to defend our country on December 7, 1941 and the sacrifice of their loved ones. This unprovoked attack on America changed the course of our nation’s history forever, but it also reinforced our resolve. In the face of great tragedy, Americans showed the resilience and strength that have always made our country great.
"Though many years have gone by, we will never forget the service of the Greatest Generation who answered the call of duty and fought to preserve the freedoms we have today. The willingness of our servicemen and women to stand up during our country’s time of need is what sets America apart. Like many did after Pearl Harbor, the 9/11 generation has stepped forward and we thank all those in uniform who have selflessly volunteered to serve and continue to keep our country safe."
