WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Leader Cantor (R-VA) released the following statement on passage of H.R. 3835, sponsored by Congressman Sean Duffy, to extend the pay freeze for Members of Congress and federal employees:

“Last night, over 300 members of the House, including 72 Democrats, supported a measure to freeze pay for all federal workers, including members of Congress. At a time when we are running trillion dollar deficits, Washington needs to live within its means and not spend money it doesn’t have to give raises to government bureaucrats and members of Congress. The recent report from the Congressional Budget Office showed that federal workers are paid more than private sector workers and putting in place this pay freeze will save $26 billion in hard-earned taxpayer dollars over the next 10 years. This common sense measure was used to offset a portion of the cost of House Republicans’ payroll bill in December, and given its strong bipartisan support, should be included in the final conference report to extend the payroll tax cut.”
