WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) released the following statement in response to President Obama's budget speech:

“Today, the President again claimed that he wants an 'economy built to last.' But there is a reason his budget plan was rejected unanimously in the House last week, because it will result in an economy that comes in last. The President’s budget flatly ignores the drivers of our debt and calls for massive tax increases on hardworking families and small businesses to pay for more spending.

“In contrast, the budget the House passed last week offers real solutions to fix our nation’s debt crisis. It takes bold steps to make our nation’s economy stronger and more competitive, will get our fiscal house in order, and strengthens the important safety net programs our nation’s seniors rely on – all without raising taxes. Rhetoric and political spin won’t fix the economy or put a dent in the $15 trillion debt. We need to advance these common sense solutions from our budget to address the debt crisis and grow the economy so that our children and grandchildren will have the same hope, opportunity and ability to achieve.”
