WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 5, The Student Success Act:
"Today is a huge victory for our kids, ensuring they have access to a good education. For too long, our education system has failed too many, especially those trapped in poverty who are forced to attend failing schools.
"The Student Success Act will remove mandates on our local schools, allow federal dollars to follow our most vulnerable children to better schools, and make it easier for states to expand charter and magnet school opportunities for students.
"I’m pleased the House adopted my amendment to allow states to have Title I funds follow students to the public school of their choice, including charter schools. This gives parents the opportunity to make better choices, and makes more resources available to schools that teach our most vulnerable children.
"I thank Chairman John Kline, Subcommittee Chairman Todd Rokita, and the entire Education and Workforce Committee for their work on this important legislation."
